The Journey

1. Cathy Wong's Healing Journey: From Rock Bottom to Better Circumstances

The Experience of Hitting Rock Bottom

Cathy openly describes herself as someone who has been through hardship. She experienced a shift from favourable circumstances to adversity, hitting rock bottom while facing difficulties with money, work, family and housing. That low point led her to search for a way to change her life meaningfully.

Exploring Different Holistic Methods

While seeking a way forward, Cathy explored hypnosis, family constellations and most Western body, mind and spirit courses. These studies gave her a foundation in understanding the subconscious and family-system dynamics, and she later became an NGH internationally recognised hypnotherapist and family constellation practitioner.

Encountering Reiki, I Ching, and Buddhism

Cathy says she is deeply grateful to have encountered Reiki, the I Ching and Buddhist wisdom. Guided by spiritual friends and teachers, she used Reiki for transformation and put Buddhist wisdom into daily practice. Within two years, she moved from adversity to better circumstances, rebuilding everything from zero.

Cathy Wong

“The Buddha taught that life is impermanent. When facing difficulties, do not give up lightly. The key is learning to transform the root of the problem… The first step in spiritual practice is to recognise the problem’s true nature.”

The I Ching Wisdom Behind Adversity Giving Way to Prosperity

The expression “adversity giving way to prosperity” comes from the I Ching. Peace, hexagram 11, places Earth above Heaven and represents their energies meeting so that life can flourish. Standstill, hexagram 12, places Heaven above Earth and represents separation and obstruction. Their close relationship illustrates how adversity and favourable conditions can turn into one another: when obstruction reaches its limit, it can give way to openness. This is also Cathy’s starting point for bringing the I Ching into holistic teaching — difficulty is part of change, rather than the end of the journey. For more detail, read I Ching and Reiki: Applying Yin–Yang Balance to Energy Practice 。

Sharing Her Learning Through Soul Love Center

After emerging from her low point, Cathy hoped to share ways to cultivate merit and wisdom through Soul Love Center's courses. In her words: “Perhaps you feel uncertain, are searching for meaning in life or seeking spiritual growth. I hope my courses can be a spiritual friend, teacher and companion to you.” For more about the centre's philosophy, see About Us 。

Credentials

II. Professional Qualifications and Institutional Background

When selecting a spiritual teacher, verifying their qualifications is an important reference. Below is Cathy Wong's qualifications and background information of related institutions:

Professional Fields Qualifications Related organisations
Usui Reiki Registered Reiki Master Teacher(IARP no.62694574) International Association of Reiki Professionals(IARP)
Reiki teaching Internationally recognised Reiki certificate teacher (Practitioners Master of Usui Reiki) —
Hypnosis NGH-recognised hypnotherapist National Guild of Hypnotists(NGH)

What is IARP?

IARP stands for the International Association of Reiki Professionals, an international association with members worldwide. Registered professional members must provide evidence of Reiki training and agree to its Code of Ethics. Members of the public can search for registered practitioners using the Reiki Locator on IARP's official website.

What is NGH?

NGH stands for the National Guild of Hypnotists, a US-based international organisation that establishes professional standards for hypnosis and provides certification and continuing education. Under NGH's professional principles, hypnotists do not diagnose medical conditions, treat them or prescribe for clients; hypnosis is an approach to personal growth and exploration of the subconscious. Cathy's hypnosis background is reflected in topics such as the advanced course's “inner programming: rapid subconscious change”.

What are family constellations?

Family constellations were developed by German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger (1925–2019). This experiential approach usually involves group participants representing members of a client's family, allowing less apparent relational dynamics to emerge. Cathy combines this with Reiki in the advanced course's “Reiki Family Constellations: The I Ching Philosophy” and the Master course's “Advanced Reiki Family Constellations”.

Integrated Wisdom

III. Integration of multiple wisdoms: Reiki, hypnosis, family constellation, I Ching, and Buddhism

Cathy's teaching has the most distinctive feature of integrating several originally independent wisdoms, corresponding to different levels of holistic wellbeing in the course:

Wisdom Focus level How it appears in the courses
Reiki (Usui Reiki) Energy balance and self-healing Attunement, hand positions, and Reiki symbols at Levels 1 to Master
Hypnosis The subconscious Level 1: “working with emotions accumulated in the subconscious”; Advanced: “inner programming”
family constellations Family relational dynamics Advanced: “Reiki Family Constellations”; Master: “Advanced Constellations”
I Ching Yin and Yang changes, macro framework Advanced: “I Ching philosophy” and “the twelve meridians and their time-cycle theory”
Buddhist teachings Merit, wisdom, karma and the nature of the mind Level 2 「Understanding the Law of Karma」, 「Planting the Seed of Good Fortune」

Usui Reiki: The Balance of Energy

Usui Reiki is an energy method established by Japanese practitioner Mikao Usui. After attunement, the practitioner transmits Reiki energy with both hands to help relax and balance the body and mind. This is the foundation of Cathy's teaching. To learn about the lineage of Usui Reiki, please read What Is Usui Reiki? A Complete Introduction to Mikao Usui and Reiki and Mikao Usui 。

The I Ching: A Framework for Understanding Change

In Cathy's teaching, the I Ching is used to understand change rather than for divination: yin and yang wax and wane, while adversity and prosperity transform into one another. Students learn to use this framework to understand emotional fluctuations and stages of life. Further reading: The Five Elements and Seven Chakras: An I Ching Perspective 。

Family Constellations: Understanding System Dynamics

Many troubles are not just personal issues, but related to the relationships within the family system. Combining family constellations with the I Ching, see I Ching, Family Constellations and Reiki: Three Approaches to Deeper Healing 。

Buddhism: The Practice of Virtue and Wisdom

Cathy believes that Buddhism not only teaches the cultivation of human and celestial merit, but also helps to elevate the spiritual self and open the mind. She believes that to live richly, happily, peacefully, and joyfully, one needs merit, and people often overlook the most important point. The center has also offered free of charge Buddhist stories in the form of comic books, see Latest news 。

Teaching Philosophy

IV. Teaching Philosophy: Cultivating Virtue and Wisdom, Walking the Right Path

Philosophy One: Everyone has innate healing power

Cathy often quotes Usui: “Everyone has an innate ability to heal as a divine gift.” Her role is to help students awaken and trust that ability, making Reiki a tool for helping themselves and others.

Principle Two: Strict Standards for Teacher Training

For Master training, Cathy insists that students first build practical Reiki experience, because “only a solid foundation in Reiki case practice can make a competent teacher”. She asks Master students to observe their words and actions with a Master's self-discipline and mindfully preserve the authenticity of Usui Reiki.

Principle Three: In-Depth Practice in One Tradition

Cathy believes that “among the eighty-four thousand Dharma doors, practising one path deeply can bring great understanding”. She encourages students to explore and practise consistently so that Reiki can contribute to a better quality of life.

Principle Four: Progressive Integration of Body, Mind and Spirit

Her Usui Reiki courses progress through three dimensions: body, mind and spirit. Level 1 focuses on the body, Level 2 on the mind, and the advanced course on spirituality. This integrated approach is explained in What Is Mind–Body–Spirit Integration? Self-Care for Hong Kong City Life 。

Reiki Healing

6. Reiki Sessions and Bookings

If you are temporarily not interested in learning Reiki, Soul Love Center also offers one-on-one Reiki healing appointments. During the session, you just need to wear clothes and lie down or sit quietly. The practitioner will place their hands lightly or above your body to help you enter a relaxed state.

Reiki is a complementary relaxation and self-care practice and cannot replace medical care. The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states that it has not been clearly shown to be effective for any health-related purpose, although harmful effects have not been identified. Consult a registered doctor first for health concerns. For the session process and booking methods, see Reiki Healing in Hong Kong: Fees, Sessions and Booking and Is Reiki Healing Effective? Choosing a Teacher

9. How to determine if a Reiki teacher is suitable for you?

  1. Verifiable credentials: does the teacher belong to a professional organisation whose membership can be checked? IARP members, for example, can be found through the official Reiki Locator.
  2. Course system complete: Does the teacher provide a sequential course from Level 1 to Master Level?
  3. A compatible teaching philosophy: do the teacher's values match your needs? For example, would you like an integrated approach combining the I Ching and Buddhist wisdom?
  4. Rational and honest: Will the teacher exaggerate the effectiveness of Reiki? Responsible teachers will clearly state that Reiki cannot replace medical treatment.
  5. First try before deciding: You can watch videos, read articles, or WhatsApp chat to feel if you are compatible.
