Video 1 · Master Symbol
Background Information: What is Dai Ko Myo?
The following is background information on the symbols, not a summary of the video content.
Dai Ko Myo is generally written with characters meaning “Great Shining Light” and is known in Usui Reiki as the Master symbol:
| Character | Pronunciation | Common interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Dai | Dai | Great, boundless |
| Ko | Ko | Light, radiance |
| Myo | Myo | Brightness and clarity (formed from the characters for “sun” and “moon”) |
“Radiant light” has a profound meaning in Japanese Buddhism, and some researchers connect it with Dainichi Nyorai, or Mahavairocana, in Shingon Buddhism. At Soul Love Center, the Master symbol is taught in the Advanced Usui Reiki Course is taught; Master course teaches Tibetan/Usui Master symbols and mantras. For differences between the Master symbols in the Usui and Tibetan systems, see Usui Reiki vs Tibetan Reiki: 5 Key Differences 。
Video 2 · Emotional Symbol
The Application of Sei Hei Ki Symbols
Background: What Is Sei Hei Ki?
The following is background information on the symbols, not a summary of the video content.
Sei Hei Ki, also written Sei He Ki, is Usui Reiki's emotional symbol, generally used in relation to mental and emotional aspects. Different written character forms have been proposed:
| Written form | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Seiheki | Disposition, habitual tendencies |
| Emotional harmony | Emotional calm |
| Sacred harmony | Spiritual peace |
The different written forms point in a similar direction: emotions returning from fluctuation to calm. At Soul Love Center, the emotional symbol is taught in the Usui Reiki Level 2 Course course. Level 2 focuses on the mind, including “expanding awareness and transforming unhelpful old patterns” and “revisiting past trauma through healing and forgiveness”.
One student describes it this way: “Reiki is like an emotional stabiliser, easing negative emotions within a short time, around 5–10 minutes.” For more accounts, see Student Testimonials ; for emotion-related applications, see Can Reiki help with insomnia, anxiety, and emotions? 。
Video 3 · Using Reiki
How to use 【Reiki】 to heal
Background: Three Common Uses of Reiki
The following is background information, not a summary of the videos.
- Self-healing: after Level 1 attunement, use hand positions daily to offer Reiki to yourself. See 12 Reiki Hand Positions for Self-Healing 。
- Practice for others: Level 1 includes “full-body Reiki hand positions for others”. Reiki may also be used with babies, pets and plants. See Reiki for Babies, Pets and Plants 。
- Distant Reiki: Level 2 teaches the distant symbol and distant Reiki practice.
Taking a Reasoned View of “Healing”
The US National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states that Reiki has not been clearly shown to be effective for any health-related purpose, although studies have not identified harmful effects. Reiki is a complementary relaxation and self-care practice and cannot replace diagnosis or treatment by a registered doctor. For details, see Is Reiki Healing Effective? Scientific Perspective on Energy Healing 。If you only want to try it out, you can book a Reiki treatment, and the process will be explained in Reiki Session Fees and What Happens During a Session 。

Four Symbols
The Four Usui Reiki Symbols at a Glance
| Symbol | Common name | Written characters, where applicable | Soul Love Center Course |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cho Ku Rei | Power symbol | — | Level 2 |
| Sei He Ki/Sei Hei Ki | Emotional symbol | Written forms vary, with interpretations including habitual tendencies and emotional or sacred harmony | Level 2 |
| Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen | Distant symbol | The origin is right mindfulness | Level 2 |
| Dai Ko Myo | Master symbol | Great Shining Light | Advanced Level |
The Original Meaning of the Symbols
Some researchers note that “right mindfulness” in the phrase associated with Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is a Buddhist term. In Usui's time, the symbols were understood as tools for rediscovering one's true nature, while their use for distant healing became more common in the West. This echoes the memorial's statement that “cultivation and discipline were the key to founding the spiritual method”. For the inscription, see Mikao Usui 。
Must Symbols Be Used Only After Attunement?
According to Soul Love Center's Level 2 course introduction, students must undergo the Level 2 activation process for the Reiki symbols to function. For an introduction to attunement, see What is Reiki attunement like? 。
