About the Workshop
Advanced Meditation: From 'Doing' to 'Practicing'
Meditation and Insight Workshop [Advanced] is designed for those with basic meditation experience or related mindfulness practice. The focus is not on achieving a particular sensation, but on further familiarizing with insight meditation, building a more stable practice rhythm, and bringing awareness back to daily life.
The four key features listed in the course materials are: Advanced Meditation, Stable Practice Rhythm, Emotion and Body Awareness, and Life Integration. The actual practice sequence, depth of each content, and class schedule should be based on the center's latest course outline and the instructor's daily arrangement.
Advanced Practice Does Not Mean Seeking More Intense Experiences
Meditation is not a competition, nor does it require participants to have a peaceful, happy, or special physical sensation. During practice, you may notice thoughts, emotions, or physical sensations, or feel it as normal. The focus is on observing the present experience, rather than forcing control or evaluating yourself.
Learning Focus
Four Course Highlights
1. Advanced Insight Practice
Continue the meditation and insight practice on top of existing foundations, paying attention to the physical sensations, emotions, and thoughts that arise in the present moment. Insight meditation is not about investigating the cause of each thought or requiring the elimination of mental activity; rather, it involves noticing when you wander and bringing your attention back to the present moment. This is part of the practice.
2. A Steady Practice Rhythm
A routine suited to your life is easier to sustain than occasional long sessions. In class, explore suitable practice times and rhythms; ask your teacher for daily practice suggestions.
3. Emotional and Bodily Awareness
Pay attention to physical tension, relaxation, changes in breathing, and emotional fluctuations during practice. These are subjective experiences and not medical diagnoses; if you experience persistent or severe discomfort, seek help from a medical or mental health professional.
4. Integration into Daily Life
Bring the practice into daily life, such as pausing to notice your breath during work breaks, being mindful of your emotions before a conversation, or reviewing your physical and emotional state at the end of the day. The goal is to increase awareness, not to require yourself to always remain calm.
