How Can Reiki Support Abundance and Prosperity? Mindset and Practice
The Five Usui Reiki Principles, I Ching Wisdom and Psychological Research: A Reasoned, Gentle Abundance Practice
When discussing abundance and wealth, many people first think of hard work, investment and financial planning. From a body, mind and spirit perspective, abundance also concerns your inner state: how you view money, face stress and appreciate what you already have.
This article explores “using Reiki to attract abundance” from three perspectives: the Usui Reiki tradition of cultivating the mind; I Ching wisdom on Great Possession and flow; and psychological research on scarcity, gratitude and putting goals into practice. These are brought together in a practical daily 20-minute routine.
⚠️ Important disclaimer: Reiki and energy manifestation are supplementary methods for holistic wellbeing. There is no scientific evidence to prove they can directly bring wealth, nor can they guarantee any financial results. They cannot replace rational financial planning and actual actions. If you have financial, investment, or debt issues, please consult a qualified professional.
A summary: Can Reiki attract wealth?
Reiki is not a “wish machine” and does not create money out of nowhere. It can support relaxation, awareness and a change in mindset, helping ease anxiety about money and clarify your beliefs. Clear plans and sustained action remain what brings practical change to life.

What is Abundance
1. What is 'Abundance'? It's not just money.
Abundance (Abundance) does not mean money. Soul Love Center instructor Cathy Wong listed money, relationships, work, and family as four aspects of abundance; in other words, money is just one form of abundance.
Four Aspects of Abundance
| Aspect | includes | Questions from a holistic wellbeing perspective |
|---|---|---|
| Money and material things | Income, savings, and basic living needs | Is my relationship with money causing me anxiety or is it stable? |
| Relationship | Family, partners, and friends | Do I have people around me who support me? |
| Work and opportunities | Profession, learning, and growth | Do I find meaning in what I do? |
| Inner self | Peace, gratitude, and self-worth | Do I feel worthy of having a beautiful life? |
A Shift in Awareness from Scarcity to Abundance
Traditional holistic wellbeing often talks about transforming from 'lack consciousness' (feeling insufficient and fearing loss) to 'abundance consciousness' (grateful for what you have and believing you can create). This transformation is not about denying difficulties, but shifting focus from 'lacking' to 'already possessed' and 'what you can do'. Real transformation stories can be seen in Reiki and Abundance: Real-Life Experiences 。
Law of Attraction
II. 'Same Frequency Attraction': Traditional teachings and current scientific understanding
Traditional holistic teachings
The law of attraction and some energy traditions hold that everything has energy and frequency, and that thoughts and emotions are also vibrations. In this view, a grateful, peaceful state makes it easier to attract positive people, events and things—the idea that similar frequencies attract.
Current scientific understanding
Need to explain: There is no scientific evidence to show that the 'frequency' of thoughts directly attracts money. Similarly, the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) states that Reiki has not been clearly proven effective for any health-related purposes, but there is no evidence of harmful effects.
So, is it still worth practicing?
Yes, with appropriate expectations. The psychological research in the next section suggests that gratitude, reduced financial anxiety and concrete goal planning can benefit emotions and actions. Using Reiki to care for your inner state, alongside practical action, is a realistic approach to abundance practice. Further reading: Does Reiki Work? What Research Says About Stress and Sleep 。
What Research Says
3. Psychological Research: Scarcity, Gratitude and Goals
Study One: Money Anxiety Occupies Cognitive Resources
A 2013 study published in Science (Mani, Mullainathan, Shafir, Zhao) found that low-income participants performed worse on unrelated reasoning tests when they were asked to think about a large expense (e.g., car repair). Indian sugarcane farmers also showed poorer cognitive performance before harvest (a time of greater financial hardship) compared to after harvest. The researchers suggested that financial anxiety related to poverty occupies mental resources, making it harder to think about other things.
Insight: Money anxiety makes it harder to make good decisions. This is exactly where Reiki, meditation, and other relaxation techniques can help: first, calm the mind, then make financial decisions.
Study Two: Gratitude Practices Increase Positive Emotions
A 2003 study by Emmons and McCullough randomly assigned participants to regularly record grateful events, life troubles, or neutral events. The grateful group showed better psychological and physical states across multiple (but not all) indicators, with increased positive emotions being the most stable.
Insight: The 'Gratitude' principle in Usui Reiki's Five Reiki Principles aligns with findings from psychological research.
Study Three: Fantasizing about success actually reduces action.
Research by psychologist Gabriele Oettingen, including her 2002 study with Mayer, found that people more immersed in positive fantasies achieved poorer practical outcomes in goals such as weight loss and job-seeking. Fantasies may provide a feeling of having already succeeded, reducing effort. Her approach of “mental contrasting”—imagining a wish, facing internal obstacles and forming an “if…then…” plan—underlies WOOP (Wish, Outcome, Obstacle, Plan), which has helped improve effort and outcomes in several studies.
The lesson: instead of only imagining yourself already wealthy, consider your wish alongside real obstacles and decide on concrete action. The practice in section eight of this article follows this approach.
Scarcity Beliefs
4. Scarcity Beliefs That Hinder Abundance
Common Money Beliefs
- “Money is hard to earn”; “I do not deserve to have so much.”
- “Rich people care only about profit”: a negative judgment about wealth.
- “I never have enough”: a deep sense of insecurity.
- 『Talking about money is vulgar』: resistance to inner abundance.
Where do beliefs come from?
Many money views originate from childhood experiences or family. For example, growing up in a family where money was often argued over, you may associate 'money' with 'conflict'. Family constellations is one method for exploring such family dynamics; Soul Love Center's Advanced Level courses include 'Reiki Family Constellations: I Ching Philosophy'. For more details, see I Ching, Family Constellations and Reiki: Three Approaches to Deeper Healing 。
Traditional energy views
In chakra traditions, security is often associated with the root chakra and self-worth with the solar plexus chakra. This is an awareness framework from energy traditions, not a medical concept, but it can help direct your attention to relevant areas of the body during self-Reiki. The Role of Reiki
5. Usui Reiki's Role in Abundance Practice
Role One: To Bring the Heart into Stillness
The Student in Student Testimonials as follows: “Reiki is like an emotional stabiliser, easing negative emotions such as sadness, worry and anger within a short time, around 5–10 minutes.” With less anxiety about money, it becomes easier to think clearly about the next step.
Role Two: To Assist in the Awareness of the Subconscious
Usui Reiki Level 1 course includes 'Understanding energy fields, how the subconscious influences oneself' and 'Improving subconscious accumulated emotions'. Another student shared: 'When I use Reiki, the subconscious will manifest images related to these emotions, and at that moment I can clean up these events.'
Role 3: Establishing a daily practice for inner peace
Mikao Usui's Five Reiki Principles — today, do not anger, do not worry, be grateful, study diligently, and treat others kindly — is already a rich mindset: not worrying, grateful, plus diligence and kindness.
“Wishes” and “Merit” in the Level 2 Course
Usui Reiki Level 2 Certificate Workshop Psychological themes include 'Connecting universal energy blessings and wishes', 'How to make wishes more effective', 'Understanding the laws of karma', and 'How to plant the seeds of good fortune (the law of the universe)'.
Clear boundaries: Reiki is not a wish machine
Reiki adjusts your state, the actual results are created by the decisions and actions you take with that state.
I Ching Wisdom
6. The I Ching's Wisdom on Abundance: Great Possession, Modesty and Good Deeds
The I Ching has a deep understanding of 'abundance', focusing not on hoarding, but on virtue, humility, and flow.
| Hexagram / Scripture | Original text | Abundance inspiration |
|---|---|---|
| Da You (Hexagram 14, Great Possession: Fire over Heaven) | “Great Possession: supreme success.” The Image Commentary says, “The noble person restrains evil and promotes good, following Heaven's gracious mandate.” | Great Possession means having abundance. Once you have it, restrain wrongdoing and promote good, supporting wealth with virtue. |
| Qian (Hexagram 15, Modesty: Earth over Mountain) | The Commentary on the Judgment says, “The way of heaven diminishes excess and benefits modesty… The way of people dislikes excess and favours modesty.” | Modesty follows Great Possession: fullness brings decrease and humility brings increase; abundance calls for modesty. |
| Yi (Hexagram 42, Increase: Wind over Thunder) | The Commentary on the Judgment says, “Decreasing what is above and increasing what is below, the people rejoice without limit.” | Willing to share and give, which brings abundance to flow |
| The Wenyan Commentary on Kun | “A family that accumulates good deeds will have blessings to spare.” | Echoing Buddhist merit and the Level 2 topic “planting seeds of merit” |
| Tai and Pi (Hexagrams 11 and 12) | The Origin of “Adversity Giving Way to Prosperity” | Difficulties and prosperities will transform into each other |
From Great Possession to Modesty: Cultivation After Abundance
The I Ching places Modesty after Great Possession. The Sequence of the Hexagrams commentary says, “Those who possess greatly must not become full of themselves; therefore Modesty follows.” The more we have, the more humility we need, or fullness may turn to loss. Abundance practice therefore concerns not only receiving, but also how we hold and share what we have.
Cathy's experience illustrates adversity giving way to better circumstances. For details, see Cathy Wong: The Healing Journey of an IARP-Registered Reiki Master Teacher . The more links between the 'Yi Jing' and Reiki can be read I Ching and Reiki: Applying Yin–Yang Balance to Energy Practice 。
Core Mindsets
Seven, Three Core Heart Techniques of Abundance
Principle One: From Scarcity to Gratitude
Corresponding to the Five Reiki Principles 'Heart Full of Gratitude' and research on gratitude: daily notice the people and things you already have, enhance positive emotions, and empower yourself to face challenges.
Heart Technique Two: From 'Stockpiling' to 'Flowing'
Corresponds to the I Ching's Gain Hexagram 'Reduce the Upper, Increase the Lower' and the Humility Hexagram: Willing to share time, knowledge and kindness, so that relationships and opportunities can flow. This does not mean to give without limits, but to be generous within one's capacity.
Heart Technique Three: From 'Fantasy' to 'Seeing Obstacles and Taking Action'
This corresponds to “work diligently” in the Five Principles and Oettingen's research on mental contrasting: keep your wish, but also identify internal obstacles and make a concrete plan. As Cathy says, “The first step in practice is to recognise the true nature of the problem.”
Daily Practice
Eight, 20 minutes of Reiki Abundance Practice Each Day
This routine combines Usui Reiki, gratitude practice and WOOP mental contrasting. Those who have received Usui Reiki Level 1 attunement can follow it in full. Those who have not learnt Reiki can replace the second step with quiet breathing.
Step One: Recite the Five Reiki Principles (1 minute)
In the morning, bring your palms together and recite: “Just for today, do not be angry, do not worry, be grateful, work diligently and be kind to others.”
Step Two: Settle Body and Mind with Self-Reiki (10 Minutes)
Use self-Reiki hand positions to relax body and mind, spending more time on the lower and upper abdomen if you wish. For hand-position guidance, see 12 Reiki Self-Healing Hand Positions: Ten Minutes a Day to Balance Body and Mind 。
Step 3: Notice a Money Belief (2 minutes)
Write a belief you have about money, for example, 'Money is hard to get.' Ask yourself: Where did this belief come from? Is it still accurate today?
Step Four: WOOP Mental Contrasting (5 Minutes)
| Step | Method | Example |
|---|---|---|
| W — Wish | Write down a specific, achievable wish | Build an emergency fund within three months |
| O — Outcome | Imagine the best feeling after achieving it | Feel much more secure when unexpected expenses arise |
| O — Obstacle | Identify your main internal obstacle | Impulse shopping when feeling low |
| P — Plan | Establish a 'If...then...' plan | If you want to impulsively buy, first do 5 minutes of Reiki, then decide |
Step 5: Gratitude Record (2 minutes, evening)
Write down three things you are grateful for today, regardless of size.
Continue: Act with calmness
Practice afterwards, do a small actual task according to the plan, such as accounting, updating your resume, or consulting a professional for financial or debt arrangements. Inner calm will 'open the way', and external action will 'ground the abundance'.
Common Myths
9. Common Misconceptions about Abundance Manifestation
Misconception 1: Reiki will automatically bring you money?
No. There is no scientific evidence to support that Reiki directly brings money; Reiki is an auxiliary method for adjusting internal state.
Misconception 2: Just visualizing 'already having' will make it true?
Research shows that simple positive fantasies may reduce motivation. It is more effective to contrast wishes with obstacles and establish a plan.
Misconception 3: Negative thoughts will 'siphon' abundance?
Negative emotions are normal, don't feel guilty about it. The Five Reiki Principles say 'today'—the focus is starting fresh today, not requiring yourself to be always positive.
Misconception 4: Abundance manifestation can replace financial planning or debt management?
No. Financial, investment, or debt issues should be addressed by qualified professionals.
Real Cases
10. Real Student Cases
Cathy has shared the story of a student who faced debts of several hundred thousand dollars when joining the course. After completing it, the student practised and worked on transformation wholeheartedly every day, and two years later reported that life was becoming increasingly positive. Another student concluded, “I firmly believe that diligent effort brings rewards. Saying there is no time is only an excuse; giving up is never an option for me.”

FAQ
Common Questions about Reiki and Wealth Abundance
Can Reiki really attract wealth?
There is no scientific evidence to prove that Reiki can directly bring wealth, nor any method can guarantee financial results. Reiki can serve as an auxiliary method for relaxation, awareness, and adjusting mindset, but wealth abundance still requires rational financial planning and practical actions.
Does the Law of Attraction 'Like attracts like' have scientific basis?
The 'Like attracts like' principle is part of the Law of Attraction and some traditional holistic beliefs. There is no scientific evidence to support that thought frequency can directly attract money. However, psychological research supports the benefits of gratitude practices for positive emotions and the WOOP technique for achieving goals.
Does Imagining Yourself Already Wealthy Make It More Likely to Happen?
Research shows it may not be. Psychologist Gabriele Oettingen's study found that simply indulging in pleasant fantasies may relax and reduce effort; by comparing desires with real obstacles and setting specific plans (WOOP), it is more helpful for achieving goals.
Which Usui Reiki Course Is Most Relevant to Abundance?
The content of the Level 2 Usui Reiki course at Soul Love Center includes 'Connecting Universal Energy Blessings and Wishes', 'How to Effectively Achieve Wishes', 'Understanding the Laws of Karma and How They Operate', and 'How to Plant Seeds of Good Deeds (Cosmic Laws)', with a fee of HK$1,380; entry requires completing the Level 1 course (HK$900).
Can Reiki replace financial planning or debt assistance?
No. Reiki is a supportive holistic wellness method. For financial, investment, or debt issues, one should seek the advice of qualified professionals.
